weekendwrap-up

Hello Friends,

It’s been a while since I’ve said hello and I apologize for that. Strike it up to the business of life and well, just flat out laziness when it comes to my blog but, I’m hoping to change that. Actually, I’m hoping to change a few things. I’ll tell you about that in a different post. In the past I have done YouTube videos sharing my weekends on a Sunday morning video but I’ve decided I like putting it on my blog So, I thought I would share this past weekend with you and what we did..

For once it was actually a nice quiet weekend which, for those of you who know me is a real rarity in our lives. But this weekend I truly enjoyed myself. The only thing that was missing was being able to attend Mass but my body seems to predict most of what I do and don’t do whether my mind agrees or not.

Being I wasn’t feeling up to par to go out anywhere, on Saturday night we had our best friends Linda and Bill over for some coffee and fun. We played this card game called “bulls*it”. Yes you read that right. It was so much fun! We had a lot of laughs and played quite a few hands.

On Sunday, it was just Lou and I and the four legged kiddos. We didn’t do much at all . I did my usual morning stuff like, feed the dogs, clean the kitchen, make the bed but other than that I pretty much lazed around the house for most of the day doing what I wanted.  We actually sat in quiet for a long time watching the kiddos play then Lou and I played some Gin Rummy. He always wins! but that’s okay, we haven’t done that together in a long, long time. It’s the little things people.

I spent a lot of time in the morning catching up on my reading. I’ve started a five year spiritual reading journey and I needed to get caught up and I surely did!

No, we didn’t watch the Super Bowl. My team wasn’t in it and I just well, couldn’t ‘get into it ‘ this year so instead, Sunday night I spent working on my crochet and catching up on the few TV shows I had on my DVR. It was a nice quiet weekend with no real cooking to do because I had so many left overs. Score!

Thank you for reading my post and please stay tuned to my blog as I will be adding more posts this week.

I hope you all had an enjoyable peaceful weekend.

Childhood Memories : Sand Pillows

Mumak-2-0529212

Happy Thursday everyone and since it’s Thursday it’s time for another Childhood Memory..

This week I am sharing a wonderful memory of my dad with you all who passed away when I was nine years old. This is just one of my favorite memories of him.

Every year, (we were very blessed children my brother and I ) my parents would rent a condominium down the shore for two weeks in Seaside Park New Jersey which was right on the boarder line of Seaside Heights. Like literally across the street. Our condo was a two bedroom, full kitchen etc. and located just down the block from the beach.

Every Wednesday night during the summer the town of Seaside Park would put on a fireworks display when it got dark out. So the four of us would walk up the street, blanket and snacks in hand and go to the beach where my dad would make a HUGE sand pillow.. Don’t know what that is? It’s pretty simple. Dad would push up the sand into a long wad, kinda of like a body pillow and pack it together real tight. Then he would lay the blanket out which would also cover the long wad of sand and then we would all lay down and have our heads on a very comfortable sand pillow for the night and watch the fireworks.

I miss these days..

I hope you enjoy my Childhood Memories series as it brings a smile to my heart to share them with you..
Have you ever had a “sand pillow”?

Saturdays Snippets & A Little More

Saturday morning my husband and I had lots of errands to run but this time running errands was kind of fun because something happened that hasn’t happened in a long time. You see, my husband has been through nine back surgeries since 2005 and the last two of them were almost complete reconstructions of the spine. As one would imagine, that leaves a person in a lot of pain, unable to do most things they used too and recovery from the last two is long and slow.

This Saturday my husband decided he wanted to join me and I was so happy he did. It’s the little things in life we take for granted but when they aren’t there anymore we miss them. At least I do. I can’t tell  you how nice it was sitting on the passenger side of the car as my husband drove us to all our errands. So what did we do?

Well first we had to go to vote because it was the Republican Primaries here in South Carolina. I can not tell you how grateful I am that it’s all over. My phone has finally stopped ringing! But one of the nicest things we did while waiting online and as we went a long doing other errands was….. holding hands..

Its been a very long time since we’ve been able to walk a little bit and hold hands while doing it. Then we stopped at the cleaners so I could pick up our down comforter, next the post office, after that, Walgreens so I could make a return and an exchange and lastly we went to the grocery store where, while standing in line to have lunch meat cut my husband had his arm around me and I got some kisses too. It felt like the early days of our marriage.

The best part of all this was…… the laughs.

My husband and I have always been able to have fun with lots of laughs doing the most mundane things and it was so wonderful for me to see that despite all we go through with our health and life itself we can still have fun doing almost nothing and laugh while we’re doing it. I always told him I married him cause he makes me laugh. Of course I would tell him I was just kidding but secretly, thats’ one of the reasons (smiles).

You just never realize how you can miss the tiniest things in a relationship until they are taken from you but when you get them back it feels amazing. Even though we did things on Saturday that most people will do any day of the week, for me, it was just simply……nice!

My One Year Experience on Social Media

images

As we will be entering 2016 in a matter of days I thought I would share my one year experience on Social Media with you all…When I refer to Social Media for me, that mostly means YouTube and Facebook.

I began my YouTube channel in August of 2014. At first it’s what I like to call the “honeymoon phase”. You know how it is when  you begin a new relationship and everything is wonderful, all lollipops and unicorns. That’s how making videos was for me. This lasted about four months and the reality set in. By reality I mean, I realized that I was broadcasting myself to hundreds of people and those hundreds of people all have different opinions, values and personalities.

Most of the time I was blessed that those who left comments were always very kind, supported me when I needed it and supported my channel by always watching my videos and sharing them. On occasion I would get that lone keyboard commando who would send me a private message because they didn’t want people to see what they were really made of and they would say things just because they thought they could. Word of wisdom. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.

I had a lot of fun in this past year making videos and sharing with everyone but as time went on, YouTube began taking too much of my time and I began neglecting most other parts of my life so I made the decision about two weeks ago to stop producing videos on YouTube and start focusing on what is most important to me and on my list is my blog. I am writing again when I can and I am truly enjoying it.

YouTube also caused me to spend money on items I wouldn’t have normally purchased and it helped me amass a ridiculous makeup collection. By summer of 2015 I had enough makeup to last ten years, most of which would go bad in months, I could have supplied twenty women with the stash that I had and I wasted a lot of money that could have went to better things. I have since purged my makeup collection four times and I am down to mostly only what I know I love and will wear. With the exception of lipsticks but that’s coming. I will share with you my now much smaller makeup collection and I still feel it’s a bit too much…

There is one thing though that I will always be grateful to my YouTube experience for. Some of the relationships I have been blessed with that, if I had never picked up my camera most likely they would have never happened. I had made many, many acquaintances but I have also made a few strong friendships that will last beyond YouTube and to me, those kinds of relationships are priceless. So, thank you YouTube!

YouTube showed me that while there are people in this world who love to try and drag others down and make them as miserable as they are through cruelty, it also showed me there are wonderful people out there who have truly loving hearts who will accept you as you are and where you are.

So what is my conclusion of my one year experience of making videos on YouTube? I believe one must be careful who they allow into their lives, one must be careful how much information they put out for the world to see, one must be careful not to get caught up in the “newest thing” being praised but, also be open to new experiences and most of all be open to those who truly want to be in your life. So for me I would say that my experience was 99% positive and I wouldn’t change a thing!..
